August 5 @ 1:00 pm - 11:00 pm
The Knox County OSU Alumni Club is excited to be partnering with Pelotonia this year to provide volunteers to help out at Kenyon College as riders arrive from Columbus. This year the ride weekend is Friday, August 4 through Sunday, August 6 and will stretch from downtown Columbus to Kenyon College and then back to New Albany. We need workers in the food and beverage tent on Saturday, August 5 and have shifts from 1:00-6:00 PM or 6:00-11:00 PM.
If you are not familiar with Pelotonia, it is a great fund-raiser for the OSU James Cancer Hospital and Research Institute. 100% of every dollar raised goes directly to the James. Riders solicit donations and volunteers can do so as well. (You do not have to donate funds to be a volunteer. It is just an option.) When Pelotonia began in 2009, total money raised was $4,511,868. Last year, 2016, $24,104,423 was raised. A tremendous effort that requires over 3000 volunteers! The Kenyon College site is always the biggest need for volunteers because a lot of the volunteer base is from Columbus and it is difficult to get them to come to Gambier.
You do not have to be a member of the Knox County OSU Alumni Club to volunteer. We are just organizing the effort, so please invite friends and family members to volunteer with you. If you are interested in participating, call Linda Spurgeon at 740-504-4498 or email her at email@example.com. Once she has your name and contact information, she can answer your questions and will give you the details on how to register to be a volunteer on the Pelotonia website. Registration officially begins the week of February 8th so it is not too early to sign up – the sooner the better so we can plan accordingly.
Let’s do Knox County proud and participate in this wonderful event. We have all been touched by cancer either personally or through a friend or a family member. What better way to honor these brave people than by helping to support the mission of Pelotonia.
